Wellness During Pregnancy

Nourishing your body, and taking care of yourself, is perhaps the greatest gift you can give your unborn baby.  Wellness is so important because it allows you to support yourself as you are the vessel to hold the life that is within you.
Ensure that you are following a proper diet, not saturated with calories, fat, sugar and sodium.  You can enjoy these things in moderation, but leaving room for the healthy foods will meet your nutritional needs, as well as your baby’s.
As a twin, I have lived my whole life hearing about how exhausted my mother was when she carried my sister and I; by giving your body the fuel it needs you can avoid this exhaustive state!
Your doctor can recommend excellent supplements and prenatal vitamins. Generally, a daily prenatal vitamin pill will include important minerals like folic acid, which can reduce birth defects such as spina bifida.  Many women also use herbal remedies during their pregnancies, such as peppermint oil for nausea.
Perhaps one of the most important parts of your wellness plan, would be fluid intake.  Water, milk, and electrolyte infused drinks such as Gatorade would be the best for you to consume.  Drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water daily is essential to you and your baby’s health. Be sure to hydrate before and after exercise especially if you are working out outside during hot times of the year.
Many companies centralize their practice around pregnant women, there is prenatal yoga, prenatal Pilates, even prenatal massage. How do you choose what is right for you?
If you are feeling like you desire more relaxation and would like to lengthen your sacrum (perhaps you are having back pain) then I would recommend yoga!
If you are a woman that loves to get a great workout in with equipment, and likes to have lots of instruction, Pilates would be a great fit for you.
Lastly, if you are feeling muscle weakness or having headaches and pain or anxiety associated with your pregnancy, massage can help you unwind at the hands of a trained professional.
I truly hope you all find your pregnancies delightful, and encourage you to seek wellness options in your cities.  There is an exuberant amount of resources out there for pregnant women and lots of support groups for mental health assistance as well.

Reaching out for assistance, whether it is for nutrition or massage can be one of the best things you do for yourself and your baby.
