Student Spotlight- Megan Chapman

How long have you been working in the birth field?
I've been studying with BAI since October of 07, but I think I’ve been working in this field since I got pregnant in 05 with my son! He’s the reason why I have such an interest in everything birth related!

Do you feel BAI offered you something that was unique? What was it?
Oh yes! I feel that BAI is much more doula and mother centered than other doula training sites I’ve been too. BAI wants us to look into ourselves to help us grow and become better people, not just better doulas. I didn't find anything like that with other doula trainers!

What was your favorite part of the training?
I love it all! I must say that just the learning has been enough. I love all of the activities, I love all of the reading and I can't wait to have my first birth next month!

Do you feel that the work Birth Arts requires will or does allow you to work as an effective doula?
Yes! I love the way BAI doesn't want you to be dependent on others for our evaluations. That was such a big part of why I chose BAI. I felt that I would be my own worst critic and I didn't need a Doctor to tell me how well or bad I was doing!

How are you working as a doula now?
Right now I’m doing a lot of reading and a lot of research for my up coming births. I have a birth coming up in February, a high risk birth in march and a vbac in April! I am so excited!

Tell us about yourself?
Well, I’m a mother first and foremost. I think my son defines my life, everything I do, I do for him. All of my doula training and soon to be CBE training was inspired by him. I was so unhappy with the way he was born, I just knew there was something better out there so I began asking around and eventually I was led to BAI and it's changed my whole life!

I’ve been married for 4 years this June to a really wonderful man. We’ve been living in South Carolina all our lives. We hope to grow old in our little home with at least more child.

Do you have a website? Please feel free to share.
